This conceptual ceramic sculpture is inspired by animal architects found in tide pools. The textured building is a re-imagining of barnacles, stacking up and attaching to one another into a vessel of their own.
Thin sheets of clay roll up and are assembled layer by layer to build this hefty but hollow structure from the ground up with out the use of a form or armature. The Ovate’s color is a layering of glaze washes giving subtle high- and low-lights, with a few bright surprises hidden among the barnacles.
